OVERVIEW:
The Health Records and Information Technology course is a full-time program that provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to manage and maintain medical records. Health record technicians are responsible for arranging and overseeing health information data, guaranteeing its accuracy, accessibility, and security across both paper and electronic systems. Electronic health records are the digital versions used to store, manage, and share patient information hence the need for record technicians in job markets,
EXAMINATION BODIES:
Internal examinations are conducted by the Westwick College of Health Sciences.
External examinations are conducted by the TVETA-CDACC.
COURSES DURATION:
Level 5 (Certificate Level)- 5 trimester (One and half years).
Level 6(Diploma Level) – 8 trimesters (Two and half years).
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
After finishing the Health Records Certificate, students will have the ability to:
- Manage health systems and resources
- Apply health economics to healthcare decision-making
- Monitor and evaluate health projects
- Apply the principles of health informatics to manage and maintain medical records.
- Use advanced statistics to interpret health data
ADMISSION CRITERIA:
Diploma (level 6) – KCSE: Mean Grade C (Plain).
Certificate (Level 5) -KCSE: Mean Grade C-(Minus.)
